My friend and I finally made it into a major destination: a dungeon with a high-level boss. I looked around and then asked my friend, "Why are we standing here? Why are all these other people standing here?" He responded, "The boss spawns every six minutes. Looks like we have about 11 groups in front of us, so we'll be able to kill the boss, get the loot, and move on in just over an hour." I seriously and truly thought he was joking! He wasn't. )

Anyway, the design team firmly believes that instancing is a very good mechanic and instancing will be a factor in Guild Wars 2.

But here's the good bit: While we are including instancing in Guild Wars 2, we are also including persistence. This will allow you to take advantage of the many positive aspects of that presentation both in a social and gameplay sense.

Through persistence, we can offer "event chains," which are area-wide experiences that you can participate in, and which give rewards just like missions or quests. They're dynamic, and result in consequences to the world as a whole. I imagine one of our good PC Gamer analysts here will share the event chain example from the preview.
That is all anyone knows.

From the description in PCGamer magazine, it seems to be a combination of instanced and persistant gaming areas.

Of course, we won't know for sure how it will work until the game is released in two years.

I like the instancing but with such a small party cap (a measely 8 people?!) its not nearly as worth it. perhaps some sort of periodic instancing would be nice. Like new instances every 20 minutes for the world oustide of towns? Though this is not the suggestion forum. To answer the question I'd think that with what has been said by Gaile there would be less instancing which would bring GW2 more into the MMO side of the spectrum seeing as how borderline GW1 is. I hope I gave you some answer without you having to scavenge for any of gaile's posts.

Well, i'm not against more persistant areas. People always complained about towns being glorified chatrooms after all. I'm shure that at least the missions will always be instanced.

i get what gaile is saying. i used to play runescape, which is non instanced, and you could never kill a popular monster. other ppl would kill it first.

Please read over the other GW2 threads that are around and you'll see people discussing the actual information contained in the magazine article. Any question's you have concerning information we know right now belongs in the other threads.
